The light, slightly peppery top note is attributed to Phellandrene (monoterpene), the dominant component.
The middle notes are herbaceous-earthy and woody and "slightly musky animal-like with a spicy undertone."
Lactones; minor components occurring in small amounts cause these "special effects" and are probably the reason Angelica Root Oil blends and harmonizes so well. One of these lactones is Cyclopentadecanolide.
Angelica Root Oil is highly respected in the aromatics industry. It blends well with Patchouli, Opopanax, Costus, Sage Clary, Vetiver, Oakmoss, Coumarin, Citrus Colognes, and Oriental Bases.
Action: Angelica is an anticoagulant, is sedating to the nervous system, and it reduces inflammation of the intestinal wall. Emotionally, it is calming, assisting in the release of pent-up negative feelings.
Traditional Uses: Known as the "holy spirit root" or the "oil" of angels" by the Europeans, angelica's healing powers were so strong that it was believed to be of divine origin. From the time of Paracelsus, it was credited with the ability to protect from the plague. The stems were chewed during the plague of 1660 tp prevent infection. When burned, the seeds and roots were thought to purify the air.
Indications: Bruises, colic, coughs, respiratory infections, indigestion, menopause, premenstrual tension, loss of appetite, and rheumatic conditions.
Application: Apply to Vita Flex points of the shoulder, on the bottom of the feet, or use in a cold air diffuser.
Fragrant Influence: Angelica is soothing and calming and helps release and let go of negative feelings by brining memories back to the point of origin before trauma or anger was expercienced.
Safety Data: If pregnant or under a doctor's care, consult your physician. Avoid if diabetic. Avoid direct sunlight after use .
Companion Oils: Patchouli, vetiver, clary sage, and most citrus oils.
NOTE: Because angelica contains bergopten, it may be photo-sensitizing and should not be applied to skin that will be exposed to direct sunlight or ultraviolet light within 3 days.
