Clove Bud oil is extracted by both steam and water distillation and yields sometimes more than 10 percent. Clove Bud oil is usually a lighter colored oil but may have more color depending on variables. Clove Bud oil aroma is characteristic of the household spice and users describe it as spicy, sweet, warm, pleasant and christmas candy. The highest single constituent in Clove Bud oil is Eugenol sometimes as high as 90 percent. Sometimes pure eugenol is used in the medical field, particularly as a local anesthetic in dentistry.
